Due to member and guest feedback, we have decided to convert our warm season, Bermuda grass rough areas at Man O’ War to a blend of tall fescue grasses like our (Ruark Golf) other properties. This work has been completed and the course will reopen this week. The new variety of grasses will eliminate the brown dormant look of the roughs during our spring play. We hope this will alleviate any concerns our (Ruark Golf) customers may have. We will continue to over-seed the Bermuda grass tees and fairways with annual ryegrass, which will give Man O’ War a year round green appearance. In addition to the grassing changes, we have decided to redesign many of the bunker complexes on Man O’ War to make them not only more playable, but more aesthetically pleasing as well. Hole number one is now complete with the fairway bunker and back greenside bunker sporting a new look incorporating railroad ties in the tradition of the Dye design, similar to the bunkers at our Rum Pointe course. Work on the bunkers will proceed through the off season until complete. Man O’ War is arguably our (Ruark Golf) most playable and interesting golf course, and with the changes, it will be even more enjoyable. Most of the unique mounding, with wispy grasses and links style characteristics have been maintained. We are confident you will like the grassing changes, and we hope we will be providing a bit of a “wow” factor with the new bunker designs. As always, we at GlenRiddle and Ruark Golf appreciate your business, and we continue to strive to make your golfing experience the best it can be. We thank you for your patience during this process.
